Pseudo Recovery or Recovered Enough

Prompts to help you explore this idea:

  1. How would you define eating disorder recovery? What do you think it looks like? feels?

  2. What would your ideal relationship with food/exercise/body be like? Walk through an ideal day. What would you be feeling, thinking, doing? What would be the intentions behind these things?

  3. If you are confused about if you are in recovery right now or still listening to the eating disorder, tell me right now- what do you still wish to change about your current relationships from question 2. Are you currently holding back from taking the next step due to fear, distrust or another uncomfortable emotion?

  4. Do you feel like you trust and respect food and your body? Describe.

  5. Who is defining your recovery? Is it your treatment team, a friend, someone else who says they are recovered? Is it external?

  6. What are your motives and intentions behind the choices you make to take care of yourself, the way you use food, and the way you exercise?

  7. Would you describe your relationship with food/body/exercise as a self-compassionate, trusting one?
